The Dawn Interfaith Group invites you to join them at their next interfaith panel discussion on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 7:30PM at Congregation Ner Tamid.
Today the United Methodist Church is deeply split over gay and lesbian clergy; Rev. Jonathan Chute, Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, will discuss the issues and their politics as the international body with a broad spectrum of beliefs struggles to resolve its differences and avoid schism. Islam has been split almost 1400 years between Sunni and Shia over the rightful successor to the Prophet, a dispute that we see generates strong passions today. We need an understanding when we watch the news and read our newspapers, and Prof. Amir Hussain, Loyola Marymount University, will teach us. Catholics and Jews always have internal disputes involving conservatives and liberals, the religion of my father versus modernization. Fr. Alexei Smith, Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and Rabbi Brian Schuldenfrei, Congregation Ner Tamid, will speak to these, and we will find commonality of issues among the four religions. Bob Rothman will be the moderator. The 90 minute program is free to all, so join us for an educational evening.
Congregation Ner Tamid is located at 5721 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
