Join Team Neighborhood Church and Church World Service for the 2019 CROP Hunger Walk! On May 4 we'll be walking along Paseo del Mar in San Pedro near Point Fermin to raise funds and awareness about hunger in our community and around the world. Registration will begin at 10AM and the walk will begin at 11AM.
This is the 39th annual Peninsula/Harbor CROP Hunger Walk. Returning to its tradition of walks and runs along Paseo Del Mar in scenic Point Fermin, this year's walk will offer ample time for fellowship before and after the walk. Congregations, families and corporate teams are urged to gather before the walk, and to linger afterward for the Point Fermin "Music in the Park" festival featuring local musicians. The walk is a 1.5 mile stroller friendly route, making this perfect for families. This is a great way to teach young children and teenagers about volunteer work while enjoying a beautiful day outside.
What is a CROP Hunger Walk? They're local walks sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger. CROP Hunger Walks were established in 1969 when a thousand people in Bismarck, ND walked together and raised $25,000 to help stop hunger. Since then, more than five million CROP Hunger Walkers have taken part in more than 36,000 CROP Hunger Walks.
How your contribution helps: by donating to Team Neighborhood Church and taking part in the Peninsula Harbor CROP Hunger Walk, you're helping provide food and water, seeds, tools, resources like wells and water systems, technical training and much more to those in need. CROP Hunger Walk partners with Church World Service to effectively supply these tools and resources around the world. And, each CROP Walk can choose to return up to 25% of the funds it raises to hunger fighting programs in its own community. For our CROP Hunger Walk, this money will be returned to the Peninsula/Harbor area and will benefit Harbor Interfaith Services, Toberman Neighborhood Center and the Shared Bread program of Redondo Beach First United Methodist Church.
